Canned Food Drive at The Jones Center

During the month of December visitors will only have to pay one dollar in addition to a canned food donation to access the pool during public swimming sessions.
“We realize that families are looking for ways to stay active during the Christmas break,” said Director of Recreation, Michael Kirk, “and think this reduced price is a great way to invite folks in while helping the less fortunate in the community.”  He went on to say that all donated canned and non-perishable food will go to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

Robert Gearhart, of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank explained, “80% of children in Northwest Arkansas are on free/ reduced lunch.  During Christmas vacation these children and their families rely more heavily on meals from the food bank.  Food drives that end after the holiday season help assure that food banks will have resources to provide for those who are food insecure throughout the following winter months.”  Mr. Gearhart went on to say that a list of the most needed items could be found at their website www.nwafoodbank.org.

The Jones Center will be taking the food donations both at the recreation desk (where swimmers enter the pool) and at the reception desk where members of the community are welcome to donate.
Public swimming sessions are Monday through Friday from 4:30pm to 7:45 pm, Saturday from noon to 7:45 pm, and Sunday from 1:30pm to 4:45 pm.  For more information about The Jones Center visit http://thejonescenter.net.
