Senior Biologist for Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission to speak on Rare Plants and Habitats
Theo Witsell has been the senior botanist for the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission since 2000, serves as the technical editor for the Arkansas Native Plant Society, and is a regional reviewer for the Flora of North America Project.
Witsell’s favorite research interests include the ecology and conservation of rare plants and their habitats, and the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
According to Steve Chyrchel, interpreter at Hobbs State Park, “It is a real treat to have someone as accomplished as Theo come to the Park to share their knowledge with us. I know there are a lot of folks out there interested and curious about our local, rare plants and habitats, and where they’re found. Sunday will be a great opportunity to learn about them.”
