Bentonville-based Sam’s Club said it is offering military personnel and retirees a free pass to shop in the warehouse club network while the military-base commissaries are closed because of the U.S. Government shutdown.

To receive the temporary pass, guests should show military ID or proof of past/present military service at Sam's Club Member Service counters. Sam's Club will continue to offer the temporary passes to military personnel and families until the U.S. government resumes domestic commissary operations.

Sam’s said military personnel and their families depend on commissaries for low-price home and business essentials. The warehouse club hopes to be the substitute for those military commissary shoppers.
