“Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day”
Mountain biking is a great way to get out and explore with the whole family. On Saturday October 5th, Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area along with the Ozark Off Road Cyclists (OORC) and Friends of Slaughter Pen Trails (FAST), will host young riders, ages 6-16, for a youth mountain biking event. The ride is part of a nationwide celebration known as Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.
Join Park Interpreter Rebekah Penny, Ozark Off Road Cyclist’s, and Friends of Slaughter Pen Trails for this family-friendly, 4-mile bike ride along the Bashore Ridge Loop of the 24-mile multi-use trail system at Hobbs State Park. This beautiful single track ride will include some big climbs and fast down hills as well as a great view of Beaver Lake. The ride is slightly technical, so no training wheels allowed. All riders must wear a helmet!
There will be a short introduction on how to ride, and several support riders will be present. The ride will be followed by a free hot dog cookout sponsored by the OORC.
ALL RIDERS ARE WELCOME! Kids, bring mom and dad to be part of the fun. Parents are encouraged to ride too.

Event History
IMBA’s International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for the sport from an early age to the time when he passed away in 2002. Event funding is provided by the Jack Doub Memorial Endowment.
Additional support comes from CLIF Kids, the National Park Service, and Smartwool. Further support for the celebration is provided by Trips for Kids, an organization that has been helping disadvantaged kids discover mountain biking since 1988. Trips for Kids chapters nationwide make a difference in kid’s lives by opening their world to mountain biking. More Information: http://tripsforkids.org
