Hobbs State Park presents: Hard to Get There from Here – The Challenges of traveling the Ozark highways and byways through the years”
Susan Young serves as the outreach coordinator of Springdale’s Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, and it is always a memorable experience to hear one of her informative and interesting presentations. She has developed a new program to be given at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday August 3rd at the Hobbs State Park visitor center titled, “Hard to Get There from Here. – The challenges of traveling the Ozark highways and byways through the years”
We know that even today one cannot travel through northwest Arkansas in a straight line, but think of how difficult it might have been before we had today’s roads. What were the early trails and paths like? What were the early “roads” like? Did people mainly walk? Did they ride horses/mules? Did they use carts, drays, or wagons? Was there water traffic on the White River? We know at any rate that it was not easy getting around northwest Arkansas in the early days. Don’t miss this enlightening program about early travel through northwest Arkansas.
When: Saturday August 3, 2013 2:00 p.m.
Where: Hobbs State Park visitor center located on Hwy 12 just east of the
intersection of Hwy 12/War Eagle Road intersection
Cost: FREE
