Martha L. Campbell, former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of the Marshall Islands, will speak at NorthWest Arkansas Community College and The Jones Center on Tuesday, March 26.

Campbell’s presentation, titled “The U.S. and the Marshall Islands: Understanding a Complex Relationship,” is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 26 in room 108 of the College’s Student Center in Bentonville and at 6 p.m. March 26 at The Jones Center in Springdale. The talks are part of the college’s themed semester focus on the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Campbell was a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service for 32 years. From 1987 to 1989, she served in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, opening the Office of the U.S. Representative after the Compact of Free Association between the U.S. and the Republic of the Marshall Islands went into effect.

Kathryn Birkhead, director for diversity and inclusion at the NWACC, said Campbell’s presentations are open to the public and there is no charge to attend.

“These events promise to be an outstanding opportunity for the NWACC family and the larger community to learn more about the history of the relationship between the U.S. and the Marshall Islands,” Birkhead said. Campbell’s presentations will include discussion of the Compact of Free Association between the United States and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
