Candy and costumes crowd the Fayetteville Square

Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan, several city staff and dozens of local businesses and groups added to their official duties to pass out candy to children Wednesday at the downtown Fayetteville Square.

The square was blocked off to traffic in the afternoon to set-up for the festivities. Trick-or-treaters lined the sidewalks to wait in line for candy and other treats.

The Farmer’s Market handed out fresh red apples while the Fayetteville Fire Department treat was to allow children to sit in the front seat of their fire truck. Terra Studios took pictures against a fall background for those who wanted to remember the fun night.

“It’s all about the kids. There are a few things you get to do as mayor that you really enjoy, this is one of them,” said Mayor Jordan.

As kids grabbed from the mayor’s candy bucket, he was asked if this was the fastest two hours of his year. “It’s close,” he laughed.

With his multiple eyeball costume bouncing around his head, the mayor joked, “I have vision.”

Along with parents and children dressed up, plenty of four-legged-friends came to the party. There was a pet costume contest sponsored by Dog Party USA.
