Transplace Part of Team to Win Supply Chain Award
Transplace, a Dallas-based third-party logistics provider with roots in Northwest Arkansas, was part of a five-company team that won the 2012 Supply Chain Innovation Award.
Given annually by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, the collaborative award goes to the winning team in a competition to demonstrate quantifiable, sustainable cost-savings, revenue-generating or customer-satisfaction achievements.
This year’s eight finalist teams presented their case studies at the council’s annual conference in Atlanta.
Representatives from Transplace, Dal-Tile, Whirlpool Corp., Convermex and Werner Co. presented the winning case study, titled “Opposites Attract — Shippers Consolidate Truckloads to Improve Capacity Utilization and Sustainability.” They received the award Oct. 3.
Transplace was formed in 2000 by six trucking companies including Lowell-based J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. J.B. Hunt maintained majority ownership of Transplace until 2009, when Transplace was acquired by private investment firm CI Capital Partners LLC of New York.
Transplace’s Lowell office remains its largest operations center, where about 275 of the company’s 550 or so employees work.
