Russia bans Tyson Foods pork imports
Russia barred imports of frozen boneless pork produced by a unit of Tyson Foods Inc. after laboratory tests found listeria in the meat, according to the national food-safety watchdog.
The temporary ban on pork from Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. takes effect Sept. 12, Rosselkhoznadzor, as the service is known, said in an e-mailed statement today (Sept. 3). Tyson Fresh Meats is a division of Tyson Foods, Alexei Alekseenko, the service’s spokesman, said by phone in Moscow.
“We’re looking into the claims by Russian officials and will work diligently to quickly resolve this matter,” Gary Mickelson, a spokesman for the U.S. meat producer, said by e- mail. “Providing safe, high quality pork is extremely important to our business.”
