ConAgra to invest $100 million in Russellville plant

ConAgra Foods on Monday (Sept. 24) announced an expansion of its food facility in Russellville, adding more than 80 jobs with total investment of more than $100 million, according to a statement from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.

Omaha, Neb.-based ConAgra recently acquired the Bertolli and P.F. Chang's Home Menu frozen meal brands from Unilever, and will use the Russellville plant to produce the products.

With the additional 80 employees, ConAgra Foods will employ more than 1,430 people at the Russellville facility, noted the AEDC advisory.

“ConAgra Foods has a long history in Russellville and we are pleased to grow our presence in the area,” Mike Tracy, senior vice president of Consumer Foods Supply Chain for ConAgra Foods, said in a statement. “Our dedicated employees, along with the support of the city of Russellville and the State of Arkansas will allow us to make great food here for many years to come.”

The ConAgra Russellville plant, in operation since 1964, produces Banquet, Healthy Choice and Marie Callender’s products.

ConAgra Foods is among North America’s leading food companies, with ConAgra Foods brands found in 97% of American households, noted the AEDC statement.

Wal-Mart Stores is the largest customer for ConAgra, accounting for approximately 17%, 18%, and 18% of consolidated net sales for fiscal years 2012, 2011, and 2010, respectively.

As of May 27, ConAgra employed 26,100 with about 42% of those being employees working with collective bargaining agreements.
