FAYETTEVILLE — Eight people working within the local hospitality industry have applied for an open seat on the Fayetteville Advertising & Promotions Commission. The spot was vacated by Jammin’ Java owner Brandon Karn, whose term does not expire until April 1, 2014.

Applicants must be an owner or manager of a hotel, motel, or restaurant, be a registered voter and a Fayetteville resident. The deadline for applications was Friday (Aug. 3).

Those vying for the Karn’s spot are:
Doug Allen, owner of Jose’s on Dickson Street;
Michael Andrews, owner Fresco Cafe & Pub;
Matt Behrend, general manager of the Holiday Inn Express, KHG Hotels;
James “Jim” C. Huson, owner of Doe’s Eat Place;
Ching Mong, a self-employed restauranteur;
Shellie Morrison, catering co-owner of The Event Group;
Hannah Withers of the Lil Bread Co.; and,
Denise Youngblood, owner of Mojo’s Pints and Pies.

All eight have been invited to join the commission Monday (Aug. 13) as it tours the new home of the Fayetteville Underground artists collective. Commissioners are then expected to select a new commissioner at their meeting after the tour. Their pick must then be approved by the Fayetteville City Council.
