Tyson recalls canned chicken
Springdale-based Tyson Foods Inc. is voluntarily recalling 70,500 lbs. of canned Premium Chunk Chicken produced by Madelia, Minn-based Tony Downs Foods Company, a co-packer of the product.
Approximately 24 cans produced on May 18, 2012 were mislabeled and actually contained Beef with Gravy. The gravy contains wheat and is a potential allergen. Tyson Foods has accounted for 14 of the 24 cans, however as a precautionary measure, the company is recalling all 12.5-oz. cans of “Tyson Premium Chunk Chicken” produced that day.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with this mislabeling. The U.S. Department of Agriculture classified this recall as having a “low health risk.”
The mislabeled product can be identified by the date code 8965 248A 12139 printed directly on the end of each can, with a “best by” date of May 18, 2015.
