FAYETTEVILLE — Keep Fayetteville Beautiful, a band of seemingly invisible volunteers that goes around the city quietly picking up waste and greening up the place, is seeking nonprofit status.

One of the first requirements is to come up with a logo, and organizers are asking their fellow citizens for help. The group will be affiliated with Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.

Chase Gipson, recreation superintendent for Fayetteville Parks and Recreation, is in charge of collecting entries, and he’s seeking them both children and adults. So far, he’s received seven, all from youth. Entries are due by 5 p.m. July 25.

“The committee felt a community-wide contest would be a great way to get the children and adults of Fayetteville involved in the early stages of [Keep Fayetteville Beautiful],” he said.

Keep America Beautiful has three primary areas of focus: Litter prevention, beautification and community greening and waste reduction and recycling. The guiding principles of the organization are individual responsibility, education, partnerships and volunteer action. Keep Fayetteville Beautiful’s mission statement is “Helping create pride and responsibility in our community environments.”

Entrants in the logo contest are encouraged to incorporate any and all of these ideas into the logo design. The image will need to be transferable to T-shirts, brochures, posters and other promotional materials. A maximum of three colors may be used.

The local organization will award winners in three categories: Kindergarten through fifth grade, sixth through 12th grade and an open division. Winners in each division will receive a $100 gift card. Parents of school-age children who provide a significant amount of help to creating a logo are encouraged to submit their entries in the open division.

Submissions, in JPEG or PDF form, should be emailed to [email protected]. Hard copies can also be mailed to KFB Logo Contest, Fayetteville Parks, 113 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville, AR, 72701 or dropped off at 1455 S Happy Hollow Road in Fayetteville.

Winners will be announced here on July 30. Call (479) 444-3471 with any questions regarding the logo contest.
