Rogers mourns death of Councilman Daniel
ROGERS — Rogers City councilman Larry Daniel passed away Monday morning (April 30) after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
"He will be missed as a colleague on the council and as a person who has fingerprints on just about everything good that has happened in the city in the last decade," Mayor Greg Hines said.
Daniel was a retired banker who worked for the Bank of Arkansas and Arvest.
The 58-year-old Daniel represented Ward 3 on the city council for nearly 11 years. As chairman of the council's finance committee, Daniel helped ensure the city's healthy fiscal future in addition to helping grow the city over the past 11 years, Hines said.
Daniel was appointed to the council in August 2001 and has successfully run for reelection in the 11 years since.
"My heart is broken for Larry's family and the city he loved so much," U.S. Congressman Steve Womack said in a release. Daniel "was committed to serving his community and is among those responsible for the tremendous improvements— economic, recreational and governmental— in the last several years."
Hines said he will miss the man he called a true friend and confidant.
Daniel "was just one of those people who was always there for you. He was a faithful friend," Hines said.
Finding Daniel's replacement on the city council will begin during the group's May 8 meeting when a vacancy is declared.
