Tyson Foods wins $268 million DOD contract
Tyson Foods’ beef subsidiary won two government contracts totaling $268 million granted by the U.S. Department of Defense, earlier this week.
The contracts require Tyson to provide fresh beef products for resale at Defense Department commissaries throughout 16 eastern states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The terms are set for 24 months, beginning March 1 through Feb. 28, 2014.
Nineteen firms provided bids, according to the government release. Tyson won two of three contracts awarded. National Beef Packing of Kansas City, Mo. won the other bid with an estimated value of $114.8 million.
