Gordon named SEC team doc of the year
Dr. Alfred Gordon Jr., the head team primary care physician for Razorback Athletics will be honored as the 2011-12 Southeastern Conference Team Physician of the Year by the Southern Orthopaedic Association (SOA) next week.
Gordon will be recognized at the SOA meetings held in conjunction with the 2012 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, March 8-10 at the Starwood Hotel in New Orleans.
“Congratulations to Dr. Gordon on being selected for this award,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “Dr. Gordon has been a key part of our medical team for many years and has helped provide care for thousands of Razorback student-athletes.”
Gordon was selected for the award by athletic training staffs at SEC institutions. In addition to working with Razorback Athletics, Gordon practices at FirstCare Family Doctors North, MANA Medical Associates.
Gordon received his bachelor’s degree in 1980 from Hendrix College in Arkansas followed by a master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas. He earned his doctor of medicine at the University of Arkansas and completed his residency in family practice with an emphasis on sports medicine at the University of Arkansas’s Area Health Education Center Northwest in Fayetteville in 1994.
Gordon has received numerous honors including Desoto High School Hall of Honor in Helena, Arkansas. He was voted “Top Family Practice Physician” in the state of Arkansas by colleagues in Arkansas Life Magazine and also received the Sigma Chi Fraternity Grand Consuls’ Citation.
