Wal-Mart Names CBS Executive To Lead Global E-Commerce
Neil Ashe, an executive with CBS Corp., was named Monday the new president and CEO of global e-commerce for the world’s largest retailer.
Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced Ashe, 44, as the successor to Eduardo Castro-Wright, who announced last fall he plans to retire. The new hire is effective immediately and Castro-Wright will assist in the transition.
Ashe was most recently president of San Francisco-based CBS Interactive, leading all online properties. Websites included CBSNews.com, CBSSports.com and CBS.com among others.
Before that, Ashe was CEO of CNET Networks. The company’s value grew from $100 million to $1.8 billion during his time there.
In a news release, Wal-Mart president and CEO Mike Duke praised Ashe for his personal leadership skills and experience working with a major corporation.
“Neil is the ideal leader to help us build this business,” Duke said. “He has led companies through all stages of growth.”
Ashe has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University.
