Sam’s Club CEO Leaving; Wal-Mart Exec Named to Post
Sam’s Club president and CEO Brian Cornell is leaving the company Feb. 1 for family reasons, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Friday.
Rosalind G. Brewer, president of Wal-Mart’s eastern U.S. division, will succeed him, a news release from Wal-Mart stated.
Cornell, 52, has been with Sam’s Club for about 30 years. He said in the release that he and his wife want to move to the Northeast to be near their children.
Brewer joined Wal-Mart five years ago, and was named one of the most powerful women in business by Fortune magazine in 2010 and 2011.
In other management changes, chief information officer Rollin Ford will become Wal-Mart’s chief administrative officer. His duties will include overseeing the information systems division, global sourcing, global business processes and global customer insights.
Assistant CIO Karenann Terrell will replace Ford.
And Gisel Ruiz has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer for Wal-Mart U.S., where she is currently executive vice president of the people, or human resources, division. Last February, Latina Style named her its 2010 Latina Executive of the Year.
All of the changes will take effect Feb. 1.
