Eureka Springs wraps up the summer with one of the hottest Blues guitar legends around. On Saturday, August 30th, Robert Cray will be appearing at The Auditorium at 36 S. Main Street at 8 p.m.
Cray is a five-time Grammy Award winner. Recognized for his masterful work as a guitarist and multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer, Cray's musical resume reads like a who's who in contemporary music. He's played with a cross section of greats from a multitude of genres, including Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Tina Turner among others, and mentors like John Lee Hooker and B.B. King. These unique collaborations cement Cray's unique status as an artist who bridges the gap between R&B, Blues and rock.
Since exploding onto the music scene with the album debut “Who's Been Talkin',” Cray's unique playing style and distinct sound has become the bridge between traditional and contemporary. His signature blend of different musical genres and his riveting entertaining style is all about fun and passion.
“Every time somebody asks me about where my music comes from, I give them five or six different directions – a little rock, soul, jazz, blues, a little gospel feel,” says Cray. “Then there are some other things that maybe fall in there every once in a while, like a little Caribbean flavor or something. You just never know.”
Accompanying Cray will be the Tulsa-based Steve Pryor Band. Pryor is a member of the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame as well as the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame as a blues Inductee. Following in the footsteps of The Three Kings of the Blues (B.B King, Albert King and Freddie King), Pryor fuses electric guitar with traditional blues in a style that is his own.
