Wal-Mart Stores is sending one of its top marketing gurus to the United Kingdom to try and reverse a downward spiral in its Asda grocery business amid economic weakness and fierce competition of discounters Aldi and Lidl.

Andy Murray, head of creative and customer experience at the U.S. giant, will become Asda’s chief customer officer on Feb. 15, replacing Barry Williams in the role, Asda announced Monday (Feb. 8). He will focus on overhauling Asda’s customer offerings and transforming the group’s shops, starting with the largest 95 stores.

Before joining Walmart in 2013, Murray ran Saatchi & Saatchi X, a public relations and marketing firm he founded. He also is an angel investor and mentor in the Northwest Arkansas startup technology sector. Prior to that Murray worked in sales and marketing roles at Proctor & Gamble.
