Online customers at Amazon.com can support Springdale-based Community Clinic while they shop.

Community Clinic, which has 14 locations in Northwest Arkansas, was accepted a year ago into Amazon Smile, a program which donates 0.5% of every online purchase made to the local health care organization. Customers may activate the charity through this link on Amazon.

Over the past yea,r Community Clinic has garnered around $1,000 in donations from Amazon Smile, and it’s of no cost to the shopper. The donations come in once a month from Amazon and have helped to fund prescriptions for local patients and support a new reading literacy program for children under 5, said Tyler Clark, community development director at Community Clinic.

Clark said Amazon has been a great partner for Community Clinic.

“We ran across the program last year and signed up immediately,” he said. “We had to submit 501(c)(3) information along with audited financials and our certificate from the [Arkansas] attorney general. But we were accepted right away.”

The Amazon Smile program runs all year, but since this time of year is among the busiest for retailers, Clark said the donation checks from Amazon are always bigger around the holidays.

“It’s great to be on the receiving end of one of the biggest retailers out there,” he said. “All people have to do is follow the link and shop as they normally would. The page does display that [says] while shopping the consumer is supporting Community Clinic NWA. Amazon makes the donation and it costs the consumer nothing.”
