Jonesboro Police Department receives Department of Justice grant

The Jonesboro Police Department wants to switch to an electronic ticket and filing system. A grant provided by the U. S. Department of Justice will help the department reach that goal.
JPD received a $31,353 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant to buy scanners, printers, electronic ticket equipment, software, and other technology items. About $14,419 of the grant will be used to place e-ticket devices in 14 JPD patrol cruisers, according to the city.
“This is good for the city and assists our police force, and it’s another example of how we seek and acquire state and federal grants to supplement tax receipts,” Mayor Harold Perrin said. “We could never have all these things with sales tax dollars alone.”
The department hopes to switch to an e-ticket and e-crash software system, according to the city. The switch will decrease traffic stop times, and it will allow the city to take advantage of accident reporting software provided by the state free of charge.
