ADEQ accepting nominations for annual ENVY prize, and new environmental technology prize

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is accepting nominations for its annual Environmental Stewardship Award, or ENVY award, and a new award called the Arkansas Environmental Technology Award.
The inaugural Arkansas Environmental Technology Award will recognize new or innovative uses of technology that break ground in protecting resources or improving the environment. This award will recognize new or unique programs or activities that utilize technological development or implementation that go beyond traditional environmental control measures, approaches, or outcomes for Arkansas.
The ENVY Award honors a major contribution by an individual or organization involving environmental stewardship activities in Arkansas.
“We’ve given the ENVY award since 2005 and a key component of that award has always been environmental innovation,” said ADEQ Director Becky Keogh. “This year, we wanted to go a step further and recognize organizations or companies at the forefront of using technology to protect and enhance the environment in Arkansas.”
Last year, the City of Fayetteville won the award for its “Recycle Something” campaign. Previous winners include Dassault Falcon Jet in Little Rock, Jonesboro’s Frito-Lay, McKee Foods Corp. of Gentry and Little Rock Wastewater. Anyone can submit a nomination for themselves or another organization, business or individual. Nominations are limited to 100 words and must include contact information for the nominee and the person submitting the nomination.
“By allowing anyone to nominate a company or organization, we’re hoping to see a new crop of nominees who really deserve to be singled out for their dedication to making Arkansas a better place,” Keogh said.
Nominations for the two awards must be postmarked by Feb. 22, 2016 and should be addressed to ENVY Award Packet OR Arkansas Environmental Technology Award Packet, and sent to ADEQ headquarters at 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72118. Completed nomination forms can also be emailed to [email protected].
The awards will be presented at a ceremony on April 22, 2016.
