One of the oldest buildings that make up Tyson Foods’ headquarters on Don Tyson Parkway in Springdale is getting a $9 million makeover.
Worth Sparkman, a spokesman for the nation’s largest meat company, told the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal the project involves a multi-phase remodeling of Tower 1, a five-story, 90,400-square-foot building built in 1984.
The first phase will renovate the building’s roof and the HVAC system. After that, each floor will be renovated one at a time. “Electrical, plumbing and lighting will be updated and some walls will be removed to create an open, bright, professional and collaborative workspace environment” for employees, Sparkman said.
Sparkman said a timeline to complete the work hasn’t been determined. The roofing work has only recently started. About 450 employees work in Tower 1, and that number will be about the same when the renovation is complete, he said.
Milestone Construction of Springdale is leading the work, using a permit valued at $9.18 million. HOK, a global design form headquartered in St. Louis, is also working on the project.
