Pine Bluff-based Simmons Bank is apparently in the process of opening a new branch in east Fayetteville.

Simmons recently bought the former Bear State Bank branch at 2025 N. Crossover Road. Price? $1.7 million. At 3,639 SF, that works out to about $467 per SF.

Bear State closed the branch in April. The bank, then known as First Federal Bank, acquired the building in March 1997 from Citizens Bank of Northwest Arkansas N.A. for $550,000.

Simmons’ only other retail bank office in Fayetteville is at 4033 N. Shiloh Drive, near the Joyce Boulevard/College Avenue intersection.

Greg Martin, Simmons’ community president in Northwest Arkansas, did not return a phone call for comment.
