DELTA REGIONAL AUTHORITY TO KICK OFF TWO-DAY, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOOT CAMP IN NLR

The Delta Regional Authority will kick-off its first “Economic Competitive & Resilient Communities” (ECRD) boot-camp style series in Arkansas on Monday (July 12) as part of the agency’s training series designed for mayors, county executives, other local elected officials and economic development leadership.

The intensive two-day course on economic development strategies will be held at the Arkansas Municipal League’s headquarters at 301 West 2nd Street in downtown North Little Rock.

There will be 32 workshops throughout the eight states of the Delta region, four in each state, DRA officials said. Workshops are free and participants may choose to attend either or both modules A and B, and are welcome to attend any of the upcoming workshops. State-specific resources will be presented by the state economic development or emergency management agency.

COMMERCE SECRETARY TO CROSS PATHS WITH ARKANSAS GOVERNOR IN LONDON

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will make an official visit to Europe from July 10-13, stopping in London and at the Farnborough International Air Show before continuing on to Brussels, Berlin, and Rome.

In London, Secretary Pritzker will meet with representatives of U.S. firms operating in the U.K. to discuss the impact of the Brexit vote on their businesses. At the Farnborough Air Show, Pritzker will highlight the importance of the U.S. aerospace industry to the U.S. economy and national security. She will make remarks at the opening ceremony of the U.S. Pavilion and meet with some of the 360 U.S. firms with a presence at the show.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson and state economic development officials also headed for Europe on Saturday (July 9) on a five-day trade mission, where the governor and state officials will open a new economic trade office in Berlin and attend the Farnborough air show in London. Hutchinson said last week that Pritzker and five other state governors will be at the international air show, which is billed as the largest global trade conference for the aerospace and aviation industry.

DENSO JOINS AUTOMOTIVE COLLECTIVE TO ADVANCE VEHICLE CYBERSECURITY

In an effort to advance vehicle cybersecurity protections, Japanese automotive giant Denso Corp. said it has joined the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC) as a Tier 1 supplier member.

Auto-ISAC was formed in July 2015 in a collective effort by the auto industry to establish a secure platform for sharing, tracking and analyzing intelligence about cyber threats and potential vulnerabilities. It was modeled after similar programs in the aviation and financial industries.

The Auto-ISAC operates as a central hub that allows members to anonymously submit and receive information to help them more effectively counter cyber threats in real time. Currently, Auto-ISAC members account for more than 99% of light-duty vehicles on the road in North America.

Denso operates more than 25 manufacturing facilities across the U.S. that employ more than 15,000 people, including the company’s 500-worker state-of-the-art auto parts manufacturing facility in Osceola.
