Arkansas State vice chancellor recipient of 2016 LSU Shreveport Circle of Excellence Award

Dr. Jason Penry, vice chancellor for university advancement at Arkansas State University, was one of six recipients of the LSUS Circle of Excellence Award winners.

The 2016 LSU Shreveport Circle of Excellence Award winners were honored at the LSUS Alumni Association’s Annual Meeting Party in the University Center Ballroom June 2. This award honors alumni for leadership and professional achievements, was instituted in 2007 for the LSU Shreveport 40th Anniversary.

Penry earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from LSUS in 2001. While on campus he served as student body president and was a letterman on the baseball team. He earned a master’s degree from LSU and a doctorate in higher education administration from Texas A&M University.

Beginning in 2012 at Arkansas State, Penry led a collaborative effort to start the state’s second medical school, which will begin classes for its inaugural class of 115 students in August. In 2015, his team at Arkansas State recorded the best fundraising year in the school’s 107-year history.

From 2009-2012, Penry served within the Texas Tech University System as a vice president at Angelo State University.

Penry started his career in development at Texas A&M’s 12th Man Foundation. He then became the executive director of POSSE, the official fundraising arm of Oklahoma State University Athletics. He led the POSSE through its best period of growth in its 45-year history.
