At the request of the State Parks, Recreation and Travel Commission, Arkansas State Parks Director Greg Butts presented proposed rate increases for camp sites, lodges and cabins for some state parks. If adopted, the changes will go into affect in 2016.

Based on research of comparable properties in each area and occupancy rates, Butts presented the commission last week with proposed changes to keep the state park properties from undercutting private businesses in the area.

  • Crowley’s Ridge Cabins would increase $7 per night.
  • DeGray Lake Resort Lodge increase $15-30 per night, depending on the room and time of year.
  • Devil’s Den Cabins, Lake Catherine Cabins, Lake Ouachita Cabins and Mount Nebo Cabins would increase $5 per night.
  • Lake Chicot Cabins would increase $4 per night.
  • Moro Bay Cabins, Mount Magazine Lodge and Cabins and Petit Jean Mather Lodge and Cabins would all increase $3 per night.
  • Lake Fort Smith Cabins would increase $2 per night.
  • Ozark Folk Center Cabins and Village Creek cabins would not change.

The commission approved the rates without dissent after hearing no testimony when the floor was opened for public comment. The changes must now be reviewed by the Governor and then be approved by legislative committee.

It is anticipated the changes will be voted on in October.
