In an effort to more aptly describe its services, microlender Accion has changed its name to LiftFund.

The 20-year old non-profit, which located in Arkansas in 2011, said the name is more reflective of the group’s mission and the clients it helps.

LiftFund held a press conference on Wednesday in Little Rock to announce the change.

“After 20 years of serving the community as Accion, our organization has changed its name to LiftFund to better represent our mission in all the communities we serve,” said CEO Janie Barrera.

“When we incorporated as a 501©(3) nonprofit in 1994, we had Texas in our name. We now have grown to serve eight states and have the opportunity to serve many others in the future,” she said.

LiftFund offers small business loans for entrepreneurs and companies that may have weaker credit scores or other limits to traditional bank loans.

“There will be less confusion for our customers as we describe our products with our new name LiftFund,” said Barrera. “We have only changed our name. Our mission, organization structure, tax ID status, products and services will all remain the same.”
