GARVER ENGINEERS CEO NAMED TO ARKANSAS RESEARCH ALLIANCE BOARD
Dan Williams, CEO of Garver Engineers, has been named as a board member to the Arkansas Research Alliance.The alliance is a 501(c)(3) organization governed by a board of trustees comprised of chancellors from Arkansas research universities and CEOs from across the state.

The ARA is dedicated to promoting research at the state’s universities, specifically for the purposes of bringing ideas to the marketplace and fostering higher-paying, knowledge-based job creation in Arkansas. Read more at this link.

TEDxHENDRIXCOLLEGE 2015: HOW TO SPEND A SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Todd Jones, who moderates the blog ARScene.net, has a solid write-up of Sunday’s TEDxHendrixCollege 2015 event. Talk Business & Politics host Roby Brock was the emcee for the event, which featured nearly a dozen speakers on events ranging from music to monsters. The theme of the event was “Origins” and Jones runs down the line-up and what they brought to the forum.

TEDx events foster “ideas worth sharing” and they bring together elements of the entrepreneurial and startup communities to exchange those ideas and to network.

‘DELTA CHALLENGE’ PITCH COMPETITION IN JONESBORO ON SATURDAY
The Delta Regional Authority is sponsoring “The Delta Challenge” event at the Arkansas State University Delta Center for Economic Development on University Loop at 1 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 28).

Up to 16 startup-company representatives will be identified to represent an eight-state region and receive a fellowship to participate in a special segment of New Orleans Entrepreneur Week March 25-27.

ALLEY SCHOLARS ‘SHARK TANK’ COMPETITION AT UA THIS WEEKEND
Teams of undergraduate students from Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas will compete in the Alley Scholars Shark Tank Business Plan Challenge this Saturday on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

The business plan teams are made up of minority students and those from other underrepresented groups. The event takes place at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development on the UA campus. The summit begins a 8 a.m. and the business plan competition begins at 1:30 p.m. For more information, click here.

CONG. HILL TOURS LITTLE ROCK TECH TO MEET LOCAL YOUTH ENTREPRENEURS
Last week, Cong. French Hill toured the Metropolitan Career and Technical Center where the former banker-turned-politician told a local group of young entrepreneurs that learning how to operate a business will be a great boost to their futures.

Hill visited the vocational school in southwest Little Rock following an appearance at the grand opening ceremony of FedEx Ground’s new 300,000-sq. ft. distribution center in Mabelvale.
