A press release from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education says that a search committee will recommend Brett Powell as the new director of ADHE at a coordinating board meeting on Friday.

The ADHE search committee interviewed three finalists for the post. They included Bernadette Hinkle, Assistant Vice President for Finance and Business Services at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania; Brett Powell, Vice President for Administrative Services at Ouachita Baptist University; and David Wright, Chief Policy, Planning and Research Officer at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

“The Search Committee will recommend Dr. Brett Powell as the new director of ADHE at the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB) meeting on Friday, January 30,” the press release from ADHE states.

The director of ADHE is appointed by the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board following a search process and selection that includes substantial input, review, and recommendation from the President’s Council, subject to confirmation by the Governor. The Director serves at the pleasure of the Governor and is a member of the Governor’s cabinet as an advocate for higher education, according to state law.

Current ADHE director Shane Broadway has accepted a job as vice president for government relations for Arkansas State University.
