Election Central: Senate Candidates Fire Back And Forth

Elicia Dover delivers Wednesday’s Election Central Daily Brief, a recap of the day’s top political headlines.

COTTON & MONEY
In the U.S. Senate race, Republican candidate Cong. Tom Cotton says his campaign raised $3.8 million dollars in the third quarter. Candidates are required to report their third quarter fundraising totals by October 15th. No word from Democrat Mark Pryor’s camp yet.

‘HEAD ON’ & PINE BLUFF
Staying in the Senate race, the Cotton campaign has released a new ad — a six-figure buy that will get statewide play.

The ad is called “Head On.” In the spot, Cotton says, “In the Army, they trained us that leaders don’t sit quietly on the back bench and hope someone else solves their problems. Real leaders do their duty, they take responsibility, and they tackle problems head on.”

Meanwhile, Pryor was in Pine Bluff today holding another press conference on his “What’s at Stake” tour, which is highlighting what Pryor says is the impact of Cotton’s votes and what would have happened had those votes passed. Today’s press conference was focused on the impact on seniors.

Next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. on KATV Ch. 7 (and 40/29 in Northwest Arkansas and KAIT Ch. 8 in Northeast Arkansas), you can catch the only one-on-one Senate debate between Pryor and Cotton.

GOVERNOR RECAP
Over in the governor’s race last night, if you missed the Channel 7 debate, you missed a lot of shots taken by both candidates. The attacks were flying on both sides and it was quite a lively crowd to add to the fun.

If you missed it, we have the full debate on KATV.com. We also got reaction from both sides after the debate in our spin room – that’s on KATV.com too.

Tomorrow, the Asa Hutchinson campaign says former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will be in Little Rock to throw his support behind him.
