GOP-aligned Group Counters Pryor Health Insurance Ad

Two weeks ago, incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor rolled out a TV ad that included a discussion of his one-time cancer and his support for federal health care changes.

His father, former Congressman, Governor and Senator David Pryor, also appeared in the ad, which hyped its debut.

Pryor’s ad, titled “Cancer,” noted the conflict he had with his insurance company in paying his medical bills, an experience that he said led to his support for the federal health care law.

“No one should be fighting an insurance company while you’re fighting for your life,” Pryor said in the ad. “That’s why I helped pass a law to prevent insurance companies from canceling your policy if you get sick or deny coverage for pre-existing conditions.”

Today, GOP-aligned Crossroads GPS countered the Pryor commercial as part of a $2.5 million stretch-run media campaign likely to saturate the airwaves in the coming weeks.

The ad, titled “Won’t Say,” plays up the absence of Pryor mentioning that the health insurance law he supported was the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare.

“On TV Mark Pryor talks about the health care law he helped pass,” the ad’s narrator says. “What he doesn’t say is that law is Obamacare.”
