John Brummett To Join State Writers Conference Hall Of Fame

Long-time newspaper columnist and author John Brummett has been named the 2014 recipient of the Arkansas Writers Conference’s Hall of Fame.

Brummett, who currently works for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, will be recognized at the 2014 Hall of Fame luncheon on Friday, June 6, 2014, at noon on the Pulaski Tech – South Campus.

A newspaper reporter and columnist for nearly 44 years, Brummett is one of the most well-known political analysts and commentators in the state.

He joined the former Arkansas Democrat as a part-time sportswriter a few days after his 16th birthday and later became a news reporter for the Arkansas Gazette. He became a state Capitol reporter in 1980 and a regular columnist in 1986.

He has been writing a column for Arkansas newspapers continuously for nearly 30 years.

Brummett was editor of the Arkansas Times during its monthly magazine days in 1990-1991. He spent 1993 in Washington, D.C., working on a book about Bill Clinton’s first year as president. “High Wire,” was published by Hyperion in the fall of 1994. He has previously written stories for the magazine edition of Talk Business & Politics.

Brummett was a columnist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette from 1994 until 2000 and a syndicated columnist for Stephens Media from 2000 until October 2011. At that time, he returned to the Voices page of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, where he presently writes.
