The four employees of the Lt. Governor’s office say they will voluntarily leave their posts by June 30, 2014.

The state’s fiscal year ends on June 30.

State Senate President Michael Lamoureux tweeted earlier Monday (Feb. 24), “I have met with the staff of the Lt. Governor’s office. They have decided to resign effective June 30, 2014. I thank them for their service.”

The fate of the employees has been a political football since the resignation of Lt. Governor Mark Darr (R) earlier this year.

Some legislators objected to the employees staying on the payroll, while others said it would be acceptable. Sen. Lamoureux announced earlier that he planned to utilize the staff in his Senate leadership role.
