Sales of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c have exceeded expectations breaking a record of nine million new devices sold since the products were launched four days ago.

“The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone,” said Tim Cook, Apple CEO.

Cook also said more than 200 million iOS devices are now running the redesigned iOS 7 software, making it the fastest upgrade to date.

Demand for iPhone 5s has exceeded the initial supply, and many online orders are scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks.

The 5s devices retail between $199 and $399 in the U.S. depending on memory capability. These prices also require buyers to extend their contract by two years. Wal-Mart has offered the basic 5s model at a $10 discount, with the same contract extension.

The more economical 5c retails for $99, but Wal-Mart has discounted that by $20 for users under contract by AT&T, Sprint or Verizon. These prices also require a contract extension.
