St. Vincent, UAMS Call Off Merger Discussion

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and St. Vincent Health System are announcing they’ve reached the end of talks to explore a strategic alliance.
UAMS spokeswoman Leslie Taylor says the two institutions had been in talks for over a year.
She says despite the efforts of everyone involved, neither entity has been able to come up with a plan that would meet the goals of both institutions.
Taylor says with healthcare reform moving forward, UAMS was exploring opportunities to work collaboratively with other institutions to improve the quality of care, reduce cost, and expand access.
She says that, like many healthcare systems across the country, UAMS and St. Vincent wanted to explore ways to strengthen their organizations and better serve Arkansans.
Taylor says while they are ending the discussions, they’ll keep the door open for other ways to work together in the future.
