D.C.-based The Hill takes a crack at the Republican establishment’s growing support for Cong. Tom Cotton (R ) to challenge Sen. Mark Pryor (D) in 2014.

In an article posted online this morning, GOP politicos highlight Cotton’s credentials for a Pryor challenge.

From The Hill:

“I think Cotton is the only one who can go at it in a serious way. All of his federal money will transfer, and he’s being very aggressive on the fundraising front. He’s well-positioned,” said one GOP lawmaker who’s been encouraging Cotton to run.

“He doesn’t have the personal obligations some other folks have in terms of wife and kids.”

The lawmaker said Cotton was likely to run, and that he believed the decision would come in late summer.

“I think he’ll finalize everything this summer and announce sometime late in the summer,” he said.

A Cotton spokesperson says he’s focused on his work in the House for now. But last month, Cotton gave his most extensive remarks to date on a possible Senate run next year.

When asked if the door was open or closed for a Senate run, Cotton said. “I learned in the Army that it’s never a good idea to say ‘never’ and always a bad idea to say ‘always’.”
