From Stephens Media's Washington bureau:
U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., will formally launch his re-election campaign in Little Rock on March 16 with a fundraiser featuring former President Bill Clinton.
Clinton, a former governor and Arkansas native, will headline the March 16 event.
“We are going to do the Statehouse Convention Center and we’re hoping to have a big crowd – standing room only,” Pryor said in a telephone interview Wednesday.
Additional events for the Clinton have not been discussed, Pryor said.
Pryor is expected to be a target for a GOP pick-up in 2014, according to many political observers. The state's Congressional delegation has reversed from 5-to-1 in the Democrats' favor to 5-to-1 in the Republican's camp in the last two election cycles.
Pryor is the lone Democrat among the state's federal officeholders.
Lt. Gov. Mark Darr (R) and Fourth District Cong. Tom Cotton (R) have been mentioned as potential challengers to Pryor.
