Officials from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and the city of Springdale will formally announce Thursday plans to build a new supercenter near Interstate 540.

The 180,000-SF store will be located near the Elm Springs Road exit. Construction is expected to start sometime in 2013, with an opening planned for fall 2014.

According to a media advisory, the store will result in about 300 new jobs. The announcement will be held at 4976 Elm Springs Road.

Brian Hooper, vice president for real estate for Wal-Mart, Springdale mayor Doug Sprouse and Robin Lundstrom, who owns the property, will participate in the announcement. The advisory indicated details on road and infrastructure improvements will be addressed at the announcement, as well as energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features planned to reduce energy and water consumption at the store.

The announcement will begin at 11 a.m.
