Uptown Fayetteville seeks $25,000 for fireworks show

The Uptown Fayetteville Association has requested $25,000 from the Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission to fund its July 4, 2013, fireworks show and free music concert at the Northwest Arkansas Mall.
Without the money, the fireworks show and concert won’t happen, said Uptown President Jeff Bishop in his application to the A&P.
According to Bishop, it’s the only fireworks display for Fayetteville.
Uptown Fayetteville is made-up of 40 members paying $50 per membership. The association was organized in 2009 and incorporated in 2010. Its mission is to communicate and promote a unified brand of northern Fayetteville businesses, highlight services to drive commerce, attract professionals and families to Fayetteville.
Bishop said the 2012 event had “fantastic turnout,” and “brought back old traditions that were created by the Northwest Arkansas Mall many years ago.”
“Uptown Fayetteville Freedom Fireworks drew several thousand spectators in 2012. That was tracked through visual survey from the Northwest Arkansas Mall roof,” Bishop explained in the application.
Because of area burn bans in 2012, the Uptown show was the only official fireworks show in Fayetteville. The show included music from Boom! Kinetic and the Singing Men of Arkansas. The 25-minute fireworks show was choreographed with music from a local radio station, Bishop noted in the application.
