BENTONVILLE — A new van means an improved professional experience for culinary arts students at NorthWest Arkansas Community College.
The Walton Family Foundation donated the 2012 Chevy Express van and also paid for the van to be outfitted. The van has already been used for events serving anywhere from 20 to 225 people. The addition of the van features a tie bar system and special floor covering, which makes catering simpler and more cost-effective. Previously, NWACC employees used private vehicles for transporting food and major events would require multiple trips.
NWACC Executive Chef Lou said the van tremendously helps the college’s catering program.
“We’ve always done a great product,” he said. “But now, this completes the package. It’s like the ‘icing on the top.’”
Having a designated van also lends an image of increased professionalism, Rice said. That’s important, both for the catering initiatives and for those student workers also studying in the college’s culinary program, he said. Students can see the proper way to prepare for and cater an event, providing them with a better hands-on experience.
