FAYETTEVILLE — Spastic funny man Bobcat Goldthwait will open the UARK Bowl’s Fall 2012 Stand-Up Comedy Season with three shows Aug. 30-31. Canadian actor, talk-show host and comedian Tom Green will take the stage at the Dickson Street venue Oct. 4-5.

The nationally touring acts appearing as part of the UARK Bowl’s fall season are evidence that big-name comedians give weight to the Fayetteville comedy crowds. The venue’s first season, in the spring, saw a sold-out Sunday night performance by Carlos Mencia, socially and politically charged comedian and actor that left the crowd begging for more.

There’s no arguing that Goldthwait is a huge “get” for UARK. So is Green. In addition to more recognizable names, the fall lineup has been moved to primetime — Thursday and Friday nights. An Open Mic Night will be held on Wednesdays to provide a spotlight for comedians on the local emerging comedy scene.

Running from late August thru mid-December, each Thursday and Friday night show will include two comics: a featured opener, followed by the night’s headliner. The new Fall 2012 season includes an impressive cross-section of well-established and up-and-coming comedians as seen on Comedy Central, HBO, the Late Show with David LettermanThe Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the Conan Show, among others.

Carlos Valencia will open for Goldthwait on Aug. 30-31. Other paired performers are Stewart Huff and Keith Manning on Sept. 6-7; Al Jackson and Paul Strickland on Sept. 20-21; Tom Green and Leah Mansfield on Oct. 4-5, Mike Stanley and Joe Kilgallon on Oct. 11-12; and Dave Waite on Oct. 18-19. Additional shows are expected to be announced as bookings are confirmed.

“We have exciting shows coming this fall featuring some of the funniest talents in comedy working today,” said UARK Bowl manager Sam Letchworth. “We are beyond excited to be presenting season headliners Bobcat Goldthwait and Tom Green.”

While show times may vary, there will usually be one show at 8 p.m. Thursdays and two show times — 8 and 10:30 p.m. on Fridays. Ticket prices may also vary, but will hover around $10 for general admission to regular Thursday and Friday night shows. General admission tickets for season headliner Bobcat Goldthwait are $17; tickets to Green are $22.
