Benny Gooden, superintendent of the Fort Smith School District, is the new president of the American Association of School Administrators.
The AASA is a 14,000-member group of school administrators from around the country.
Gooden tells Stephens Media that he will try to persuade Congress to avert deep budget cuts to education tied to the budget deal cut by federal lawmakers last year.
ss that triggers deep cuts to education and other federal programs in an effort to reduce the national deficit is known as sequestration.
