This year, I viewed 104 films at the movie theater as part of my movie reviewing duties for one of the local TV stations and as a member of a weekly movie club. That’s a lot of popcorn eaten and time spent in dark movie theaters.
I compiled a list of my top ten films for 2011, which was a bit difficult because, while I saw many films, this year’s crop of movies were a bit lackluster.
2011 was the year of the sequels with more of them released than I can ever recall, meaning there wasn’t a lot of originality coming out of Hollywood this year. In fact, of the ten highest grossing films in 2011, seven of them were sequels, which probably means that we’ll see more sequels in the future since these made money.
Here is an insightful New York Times article that covers some of the major films and trends of 2011.
With all that in mind, here are my Top 10 Movies of 2011:
10) The Guard
9) Midnight in Paris
8) Margin Call
7) The Ides of March
6) Win Win
5) Bill Cunningham New York
4) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I covered my top five films on Friday’s KARZ-TV’s morning show. Click on the image below if you’d like to watch the review.
