State Sen. Bruce Holland (R-Greenwood) is pursuing his innocence like the police contend they pursued him.

Last month, Holland was found guilty of three misdemeanor counts related to a January high-speed chase through Perry County. He was fined $890 and ordered to perform 400 hours of community service in Perry County during the next year.

But Holland has maintained his innocence on the charge of fleeing from police.

Yesterday, Judge Wendell Griffin set a Feb. 21, 2012 jury trial date for his appeal of the September conviction.

Holland tells John Lyon with the Arkansas News Bureau that he’s hoping for a better outcome.

“I think it’s the right decision. I guess (a stricter sentence) is always a possibility, but I’m hoping that a jury of my peers will see my side of the story,” he said.

The trial will likely take place during next February’s fiscal legislative session.
