Three Democrats have announced their intentions to chase an open House seat, and now a fourth Republican candidate joins the fray.

Velmar Bailey of Earle filed the necessary paperwork to run in the House District 54 special election to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Fred Smith.

Smith was found guilty of a felony theft charge and resigned his position on January 26.

Bailey joins three Democrats seeking their primary nomination. The three Democrats who have filed are Lorraine Robinson of West Memphis, Hudson Hallum of Marion, and Kim Felker of Crawfordsville.

Gov. Mike Beebe has set a special primary election for the House seat on April 12, 2011. The District 54 special general election will be held on Tuesday, July 12.
