After three high-profile editorials in national publications criticized Sen. Blanche Lincoln’s efforts to gain agricultural disaster aid for Southern states, the incumbent Democratic Senator refuted her critics.
Lincoln, chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, has secured a commitment of $1.5 billion in agricultural disaster aid for small businesses from the White House.
Her Republican challenger, Cong. John Boozman, and several well-known newspapers – The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post – have published negative editorials calling the White House promise for funding "a save-Blanche Lincoln" program.
Lincoln tells John Lyon with our content partner, the Arkansas News Bureau:
“It’s certainly nothing new for the East Coast newspapers to be extremely critical of agricultural support, that’s for sure,” Lincoln said. “I think it’s just another example of how those folks truly, I don’t think, understand production agriculture and how important it is to our economy and how important is to feeding the world.”
