Stephens Media columnist Steve Brawner shares a valuable lesson for all of you watching political ads this year: Don’t believe everything that you see or hear.
Brawner discusses the disingenuous editing of the scandalous ACORN videos that led to the group’s demise. As he notes, the damage was done before the video’s original form was discovered or released because many people wanted to believe it could be true.
Brawner shares an experience he had while working in Gov. Mike Huckabee’s office in the 1990’s when a Canadian film crew tricked the Governor into saying a message that was later placed in an edited video completely out of context.
The result was an embarrassing situation for Huckabee and hearty laugh for the Canadians.
Says Brawner:
“People will sell whatever we will buy, and information is no different. It’s just as important for us to question those who try to influence our beliefs and values, even if we agree with them, as it is to question a salesman or marketer who tries to convince us to part with our money.”
